The growing volume of electronic waste is a serious environmental concern. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in 2009, more than 82% of end-of-life electronics were sent to landfills or incinerators, contributing to pollution and resource depletion. Many of these devices contain hazardous materials such as mercury, lead, and cadmium, which pose risks to both human health and the environment.
